Folks, our country has become a mockery, a putrid and defiled image, of what it used to be.

"What's the Matter with Canada?
Crushing Free Speech
July 21, 2008
How is this for irony? Recent actions by Canadian human rights groups have observers alarmed for the state of human rights in Canada. That is because the Canadian Human Rights Commission and the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal do not give a fig about protecting human rights. Their mission is suppressing free speech.
Maclean's magazine was hauled before these two "quasi-judicial" bodies when it published excerpts from Mark Steyn's popular book America Alone. Mohamed Elmasry of the Canadian Islamic Congress charged that the content of these excerpts about the expansion of radical Islam "subjects Canadian Muslims to hatred and contempt."
The Canadian Human Rights Commission dismissed the complaint, but the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal got in on the act. It investigated the charges in what bloggers on the scene called a "kangaroo court," and has yet to issue a ruling. But there is a greater cause for concern here: As the Calgary Herald pointed out, Maclean's has the money to fight the charges—but not everyone does. The Herald gloomily predicted, "Let a citizen of modest means utter a politically incorrect thought: He will be crushed."
That is what happened to the Reverend Stephen Boissoin. In a letter to the editor in the Red Deer Advocate, he protested the homosexual agenda, and was hauled off before the Canadian Human Rights Commission. The complaint—sound familiar?—was that Boissoin's words were "likely to expose homosexuals to hatred or contempt because of their sexual orientation."
The panel ordered "that Mr. Boissoin . . . shall cease publishing in newspapers, by e-mail, on the radio, in public speeches, or in the internet, in the future, any disparaging remarks about gays and homosexuals." He was also ordered to apologize in writing for the article, and was fined.
As the Catholic Exchange reports, "In essence, the Alberta Human Rights Tribunal is ordering . . . the minister to renounce his Christian faith, since his opposition to homosexuality is based upon the Judeo-Christian Bible." The article went on to observe that a prominent Canadian priest, Father Alphonse de Valk, is now being investigated "for having publicly defended the Church's traditional definition of marriage. Some of [his] allegedly hateful statements are quotations from the Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church."
This is what Pope Benedict calls the "dictatorship of relativism." In the name of tolerance—or of someone's twisted idea of that concept—we have to protect everyone's sensitivities. Nobody can say anything that might make someone feel like a victim of hatred and contempt. And thus we back into a soft despotism, which suppresses free speech and eradicates religious freedom.
Where is this going to end? Will it become a crime even to be a Christian in Canada? Will opposition to radical Islam be routinely punished? Here in America, we already know you can get in hot water for opposing gay marriage—like the Christian photographers who refused to take pictures at a lesbian civil ceremony, and ended up being fined by the New Mexico Human Rights Commission.
Make no mistake. If Canadians do not stand up for their religious and free speech rights, they will soon be gone. And so will ours. For what happens in the beautiful country to the north of us often affects our so-called "enlightened elites" in the United States. "
There's a question that always pops into my head after reading something like this.
How did this happen? When did our country (and the country of America...I think we're in this boat together) become such a corrupt and broken image of what it used to be? When did tolerance take the place of truth? When did political correctness overcome righteousness?
Because, the biggest problem our countries face is that Churches will not stand up for what's right. All too often we see churches are in fact on the opposite side: siding with "conformity" and "tolerance". This is a big problem.
Proverbs 29:12 - "If a ruler listens to falsehood, all his officials will be wicked."
How quickly our nation has fallen into corruption! How many years ago were we founded as a country, with morals and ethics completely different from today? What now is accepted that back then would have been abhorred? Have we progressed since that time? I think not.
We have become nothing short of a mockery. It may not have begun with the churches, but it certainly wasn't stopped by them. So the biggest question is, where were we?
Our Armor of God was there and waiting, shining and as solid and perfect as ever, and we were lying around waiting for our bodies to rot. We were too cowardly to take a stand, and now society is out of control.
We have lost what we once were. The Church's excuse is what - that the Bible is outdated? That therefore we have to love and accept those who are explicitly sinful - an abomination to the Lord - because we know better than the Bible does?
Wait just a minute. What?
“Nobody ever outgrows scripture; the Book widens and deepens with our years” - Charles H. Spurgeon
When did we become superior to the Word of our God? Do we follow Him at all anymore?
Spurgeon again:
“If we cannot believe God when circumstances seem to be against us, we do not believe Him at all.”
Do we not have the faith to stand up and say "wait a minute. There's something wrong here"?
No, we don't; because society has become so backward that anything we say comes up against us in court! We are fined heavily for saying something - anything - that might offend someone else. The nation walks around on tiptoe, avoiding eggshells. Those who are brave enough to stand up for what's right are swiftly made an example of.
So what can we do?
What did the apostles do? They were constantly thrown in prison, beaten, murdered, and they kept on going. To follow Christ means hardship. Usually, as soon as the way gets easy, that means you're not following Christ with your all. You're not leaving everything at the foot of the Cross for Him.
Romans 12:12 - "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."
This is our generation's battle. We are to take a stand. We can't hide anymore. How have we wasted all this time hiding from the truth? We have failed our God!
Churches should not tolerate what is sin. We know it is sin. The Bible tells us it is sin, and the Bible is not wrong. Ever.
There is hope for us. God is with us, no matter what. Even if we come through troubles, let us never take the easy road. I hope that I will have the courage to always say what I have said here. It's easy enough to type something out; but do I believe it? Would I fight for it? I pray that it is so!
Churches - Don't teach Tolerance. Teach Truth.
Parents - Don't teach your children to conform to what the world wants. Teach them to lead the world to something better.
How can we change our country for the better? By practicing what we believe - by obeying God. By living our lives - our entire lives, not just our lives on Sunday morning - for Him.
Let's take this mockery and restore it to what it once was - a nation that sought to glorify the One True God.

I decided that it was time for a new post, but I don't really know exactly what to write about. There seem to be a lot of things vying for attention, calling "write of me! Write of me! Come on!"
For instance, I went camping for a week with (most of) my family, and it was an absolute blast. There really is nothing like camping out with family, vegging and visiting with siblings around the fire, watching the children play, playing with them when they asked me - cuddling with the younger ones who are still young enough to want a cuddle. It's sad in a way when they get "too old" for that kind of thing - but at least they hug and kiss you and smile, even if it is all in a more grown up way. By the way, how did the older ones get so old? Justin, Trenton, Quinlan, come on! Stay young! Nooo! You are cute, though. Keep the cuteness.
And then of course there are the more rant-able issues, such as the state of Canada, the politics within, and the danger the next generation of Christians faces if things continue the way they're going.
But, right now I'm just listening to "Our Great God" by Todd Agnew, and thinking that yes, God is great. And nothing at all can change that. Ever.

Eternal God, unchanging
Mysterious and unknown
Your boundless love, unfailing
In grace and mercy shown
Bright seraphim in ceaseless flight around Your glorious throne
They raise their voices day and night in praise to You alone
Hallelujah, Glory be to our Great God
Lord, we are weak and frail
Helpless in the storm
Surround us with Your angels
Hold us in Your arms
Our cold and ruthless enemy, his pleasure is our harm
Rise up, O Lord, and he will flee before our sovereign God
Hallelujah, Glory be to our Great God
Let every creature in the sea and every flying bird
Let every mountain, every field and valley of the earth
Let all the moons and all the stars in all the universe
Sing praises to the living God who rules them by His word
Hallelujah, Glory be to our Great God

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

Wednesday night a whole bunch of us went to the theater and watched the movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. I'm still tired from it (especially from working hard all day today), so I am definitely not going to say everything I had planned on saying. Besides, I forgot about my notebook to take notes with in the theater. Yes, I was going to take notes in the dark. Sue me.
From the very beginning, it was absolutely entertaining and well thought out, asking the hard questions and not receiving any answers from those who hold to the evolutionary theory.
Coming from a God-believing perspective, in some cases I was not surprised with some of the things these "atheist" scientists were saying. What did surprise me, however, was their new theory on how the universe began:
Apparently, they believe that a higher life form - intelligent aliens, if you will - "planted" us here on earth. And yet they do not believe in intelligent design. Um, what? Where are they coming from, then? Who planted the aliens, I'd like to know?
I couldn't help but roll my eyes! I'm sorry, but their theories are clearly not scientific. At least not the science I know, which is logical and factual and absolutely not mythological. I expected some of these "scientists" in this movie to start yammering on about the Easter bunny...talking about living in Happy Happy Land with Easy Easy Fun Time. Evolution as it is defined by those who follow Charles Darwin's beliefs is more of a myth and a faith (it takes a whole lot of faith to believe in what they believe in) than it is based on scientific fact.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought something had to be proven beyond all reasonable doubt before it was considered a scientific "law" taken for granted in textbooks and the education of the next generation! This is how a hypothesis becomes a scientific law:
1-Observation - you see something, you want to find out about it. So you study it.
2-Analysis - after observation you find out how it works, why it does, etc.
3-Experiment - you see if your analysis is correct with a whole bunch of tests, and usually more observation and study.
4-Theory - you form a solid view of the subject.
5-Law - if your theory is infallible by science's standards, it becomes a Law, therefore being taken as a new fact for us kids to learn in school. (yay.)
So why were many of these steps not taken when it came to the theory of evolution? They just blindly accepted it - scientists put their hands over their eyes in order to miss the obvious flaws that have been there from the beginning (and are being added to continuously - seriously! I think it's about time the evolutionary theory was put to rest!)
Again, coming from the perspective that I do, I know the reason why evolution was accepted so swiftly. It is the sinful nature of man to accept anything that is anti-God. If we can find some other story to believe, something that takes God out of the picture, we're all for it.
Thank God (YES!) for those scientists who, even if they didn't believe in the God I believe in, still dared to question the monstrous idol that evolution has become. Thank God for Ben Stein, who dared to stand up and force people to question what has for so long been taken as fact. I am definitely going to watch this movie again. It is something worth watching until the DVD flakes away.
Maybe one day evolution will be placed where it belongs: outside of scientific fact. Maybe into "religious studies". Or "Theories from Happy Happy Land".
But seriously. Aliens?

Happy Canada Day!

Every year, no matter what, Mom and Dad make sure we keep up the tradition that's been kept since before I was born (right?). We pile into the van and head on down to Goderich, to the beach, to enjoy the fireworks show there.
We meet a whole bunch of our family. I think we take up as much space as twenty other families combined. (Maybe that's an exaggeration, but who really knows?)
It's so much fun to spend a day at the beach with the people you generally have the most fun with. Playing with siblings, talking, watching the little kids and making sure they do not get too close to the water as it gets darker...and watching them with their glow sticks, playing a sword-fighting game, rolling and diving and running in the sand.
This year, too, instead of driving home in the wee hours of the night and flopping into our beds, we drove the much shorter distance to Adeena's and Jeff's, to enjoy a camp sleepover! Creekside was as fun as ever. We sat around the campfire with the torches (we never did decide who was voted off the island...) just chatting. I love to just chat. Scratch that, I love to just chat with people I like. :D
One of the best parts about camping was being in the country, away from all lights, so that we could see the night sky. You would not believe how beautiful it was unless you had been there to see, or you have seen something as beautiful yourself. The stars absolutely lit the sky up with their glimmering brilliance. They really were twinkling at us. We could see the Milky Way! And it was just chilly enough that the birds and the bugs were silent. It's really enchanting, almost too gorgeous to be a part of this world. It's almost like a glimpse into what it's going to be like.
Happy Canada Day, all.
