(C.H. Spurgeon, The Crisis of This World)
"The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthians 2:14)
"And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked,
following the course of this world,
following the prince of the power of the air,
the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—
among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh,
carrying out the desires of the body and the mind,
and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind." (Ephesians 2:1-3)
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.
In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.
In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth." (Ephesians 1:3-10)
"But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus." (Ephesians 2:4-7)
"But God, being rich in mercy." Love that verse. Its amazing how God could be so merciful even though we constantly turn our backs.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely. It's amazing to see the story of God's love weave through every book in the Bible. He is consistent in His mercy and love. It's quite awesome.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I just read Romans 11 today. The verse that stuck out to me was: 32 For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all. (*Note second all refers to Jews and Gentiles, not all mankind.)
ReplyDeleteI am astounded constantly by God's mercy. I wouldn't be so merciful. ;)
It's all about Him. All of it.
ReplyDeleteAnd when we stop clinging to our "rights", to happiness, etc., that's when real freedom comes in.
The fact that He, almighty God, pursues a relationship with us, dirty filthy sinners, is astounding.
