One of the best things about living where I do is the variety. It is nice to have the different seasons, to see how things change.
My favourite season is coming up rather quickly. I love Autumn. It just seems like Life is answering the call of God to rest. Life is shaking off the dust of summer toil, being cleansed by the rain and the wind. Labour is done. It is time to settle down.
I love that - the settling down. It seems like each season brings something different. Spring always brings the excitement of awakening - things are beginning to move, to grow, to change. Spring carries some of my favourite scents in the whole world. The smell of Life. The smell of hope. Of joy.
Then Summer rolls up its sleeves, rubs its hands together and commences with the work. Summer is the season of dirt, of ultimate ache - the ache that can only come from a good day's work. That satisfying ache, the knowledge that you have accomplished something great even while the sun tried to bake you where you stood.
Then, of course, Autumn comes around, followed too soon by the heavy blanket of winter snow. Life slumbers, but not completely. There are days in winter when you can feel Life keenly beneath the surface - if you only brushed away that first layer of gigantic flakes, you could find it again.
But I really love Autumn. I love jumping in the pile of leaves. I love the harvest. I love the colours, even though I grumble sometimes about what it means. I love the crisp, cold air. I love the wind. I love the camp fires, and the woodstove fires. I love the crackling sounds. I love the spice. I love eating soup on colder days, and drinking hot chocolate in the evenings.
What is your favourite season?
I was JUST saying today that I love Autumn. The colours, the wind, the smell, the wildness, the warm crackly fire, soup and tea, so very many reasons. The only reason I do NOt like it is because Winter is next.
ReplyDeleteWinter is my most favourite because of being cozy.
ReplyDeleteSpring is my least favourite because it's yucky mucky and the bugs come out...
...but I do enjoy the changing seasons.
Good post Linda.
I think every season is my favourite just as it starts. :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I do think that autumn has crept in rather quickly this year. It feels like we barely got a summer!
